Aptive Training Video
This is a training video for the company Aptive.
How We Made the Short:
1- Text Bubbles
Instead of using a special effect for this scene, we simply made the text bubbles in Photoshop. We saved the images as a PNG, and placed the images over the footage.
2- Sound
Most of the sounds we found online through free websites. Others were foley recordings.
3- Fog
We had planned to have a Fog Machine, but at the last minute we forgot. So instead, we managed to get free footage of smoke in front of a black background known as an overlay. After downloading the effect, We place the some over the filmed footage. We later isolated the smoke by selecting Effects Controls in Premier Pro, we then selected Blend Mode, then Screen. This got rid of the black background so that only the smoke was visible. We later adjusted the smoke accordingly to match with the positions within the scenes.
4- The Elevator
We had many options of either renting an elevator set, building it from scratch, or even using a green screen. We were able to get permission to use a building that had a large elevator that could fit the RED Camera and our actors. We filmed the actors inside that elevator. We filmed the elevator buttons and counting numbers in a different elevator that had more buttons. We filmed hand doubles of the insert shots for when actors were not available. We finally got free stalk footage for the inside of the elevator

How We Made the Short:
1- Intro
We found a piece of a carpeted board lying around on the audio recording set, and used it as a way to show that the character was stuck in a cubicle.
2- Alien
The alien was simple a mask we found on line. In order to sell its realism, we took the scene into After Effects and slightly animated the smirk to show that it wasn't a mask.

How We Made the Short:
1- Casting
For this one shot short, I noticed that my older sister had boys who were basically cookie cutter clones of each other, but in different stages of growing up. Each boy had blonde hair and blue eyes. My younger brother played the all grown up version of the boys because he also had blonde hair and blue eyes.

How We Made the Short:
1- Narrating
I wrote the script as well as narrated the short.
2- Filming
We simply asked random people for interviews, and did B-Rolls with two cameras.

How We Made the Short:
1- Casting
We found the cast members via a Facebook page full of local actors.
2- Locations
We went scouting for a good location in Northern Utah. We only had a window of filming it before a sheet of snow covered the location. The hard part was filming while people were yelling and shouting in the background.

I found some free non-copyright music to fit the mood of the project.
